WINDER -- A Winder-Barrow Middle School teacher was fired on Thursday after she was arrested earlier this week and charged with arranging a drug deal that involved a student who later died, according to published reports.
Barrow County School superintendent Wanda Creel said Emily Smith Jones, who taught sixth-grade math, is no longer an employee of the Barrow County School System.
Jones was reportedly charged with distribution/solicitation with an electronic device, reckless conduct, and criminal intent to distribute methadone.
The alleged victim was 18 years old and a 2012 graduate of Winder-Barrow High School. She died about three weeks ago.
