NORCROSS -- A Dunwoody man has been charged in connection with a violent date rape at a Norcross-area hotel.
Norcross Police Sgt. Bill Grogan said the alleged victim, a 20-year-old female, met 31-year-old Sayed Hasan Abidi a few weeks ago at a night club in Atlanta. After a series of phone calls over the subsequent days, the duo agreed to meet in Norcross on Sunday.
According to Grogan, that's when things went sour.
"The victim reported being offered something to drink by Abidi and recalls little of what transpired over the next eight to 10 hours in a nearby hotel room," he said.
After regaining full consciousness, the woman was able to call friends and report that she had been raped. Evidence gathered supported the allegation, Grogan said.
The Daily Post does not identify alleged victims of sexual crimes.
Abidi was located at his home in Dunwoody and arrested Monday night. He is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center on felony charges of rape and aggravated sodomy.
"(Abidi) admitted having sexual relations with the victim," Grogan said, " but (said) that it was completely consensual."
Authorities declined to provide further details regarding the incident.
"(The alleged victim) was highly distraught and is having extreme difficulty getting through this," Grogan said.
