The Mill Creek sixth-grade girls basketball team won the Gwinnett County championship Feb. 9 by defeating the previously unbeaten Lanier Longhorns at South Gwinnett.
Mill Creek (17-2) earned its spot in the title match by beating the Buford Wolves in a tough Final Four game. The Longhorns (18-1) battled Mill Creek the entire game, but the scrappy Hawks finished strong in the fourth quarter to capture the victory and the championship by a score of 28-23. The Hawk team members are: Britney Biviens, Kailey Bowers, Meghan Cassidy, Alex Christian, Sarah Grace Fanczi, Lyndsey Lewis, Adrianna Morse, Lesley Randall, Madison Riley, Danielle Smith, and Madison Walsh. The team is coached by Doug Lewis and Julie Christian.
