PREP ROUNDUP: Shepherd walk-off hit gives Lions first win

SUWANEE -- Cameron Shepherd had a walk-off single that scored Matthew Traywick to give Peachtree Ridge its first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over North Paulding in eight innings on Saturday.

Tyler Haswell threw a complete game, giving up three hits and striking out eight. North Paulding's only run was unearned.

Anthony Perez led the Lions at the plate with two doubles, while Jared Stedman and Garrett Guy had one hit each.

BASEBALL

Lanier 2, Cedar Shoals 1

ATHENS -- Trenton Little had the go-ahead RBI single as Lanier picked up its first win of the year with a 2-1 win at Cedar Shoals on Saturday.

Lanier was led by Michael Diaz, who went 2-for-4 with double, while TJ Richardson also had two hits. CJ Wismer had the other RBI for Lanier on a double.

The Longhorns also got a complete-game, three-hit, nine-strikeout performance from Kameron Doster on the mound.

GAC 11, Tucker 1

TUCKER -- GAC moved to 2-1 on the year with an 11-1 win over Tucker on Saturday.

Jack McLaughlin went five innings, giving up one hit and one run, while striking out four. Reyton McGuire came on in relief, pitching the final two innings and striking out six.

Jackson O'Brien was the leading hitter as he went 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

North 10, Luella 0

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett moved to 2-2 on the year with a 10-0, six-inning victory over Luella on Saturday.

Robert McClean led the team, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Blake Sangster had a two-run double and Ben Carswell had an RBI double.

Michael Haynes went five innings on the mound, striking out five, while also having an RBI single.

Dacula 9, Metter 0

DACULA -- Dacula moved to 3-2 on the year with a 9-0 victory over Metter on Saturday.

Michael Stampfel picked up the win, pitching four innings, while giving up five hits and striking out two.

Tyler Crumley led the Falcons by going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Dylan Brown was 2-for-3. Brandon Ake added a solo home run, Matt Nigh had a double and two RBIs, and Austin Collins had an RBI.

Wesleyan 14, Hebron 1

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan moved to 4-1 on the year with a 14-1, five-inning victory at home against Hebron on Saturday.

Jahmai Jones went 3-for-3 with a grand slam and a double, while Pierce Ostwalt was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Brandon Moss also went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Trey Mannion picked up the win on the mound, going three innings and striking out four.

Eagles View (Fla.) 9, Grayson 7

LAGRANGE -- Grayson dropped its first game of the season, losing to Eagles View (Fla.) 9-7, in the LaGrange Invitational.

Taylor Allum led the Rams with two hits and two RBIs, while Jeril Dawson also had two hits. Oscar Valdes, Austin Meadows, Brandon Benson, Chris Erwin, Jon Briley, Jack Banda and Korey Anderson also contributed one hit apiece.

McEachern 9, Brookwood 5

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood dropped to 1-2 on the year with a 9-5 loss against McEachern on Saturday.

Tre Lawrence was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Collin Cotter was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Garrett Reynolds and Jonathan White also had one RBI apiece.

Brookstone 2, Providence 0

COLUMBUS -- Providence dropped to 0-4 on the year as it fell to Brookstone 2-0 on Saturday.

Erich Stahl went four innings, giving up two hits and striking out four, while Max Broom came on in relief to pitch two innings, giving up two runs and striking out two.

Charlie Scott and Michael Shealy each got a hit for the Storm.

GIRLS SOCCER

GAC 2, Auburn (Ala.) 1

AUBURN, Ala. -- GAC moved to 4-1 on the year with a 2-1 win over Auburn (Ala.) on Saturday.

Rachel Garcia scored both goals for the Spartans in the win.

BOYS SOCCER

Central wins two

VALDOSTA -- Central moved to 6-0 on the year with a 4-0 win over Valdosta and 3-2 win over Lowndes at the Viking Cup at Lowndes on Saturday.

Against Valdosta, the Knights got two goals from Nate Tekligiorgis, a goal and an assist from Robert Ghansah, and a goal from Isaac Ramirez. Juan Gonzales and Brian Ortiz each added assists as well.

Ricky Ortiz and Sejfudin Memic combined for the shutout in goal.

Against Lowndes, the Knights got two goals from Rigo Gudiel and a goal from Samir Ramic.

Brookwood 7, Bob Jones (Ala.) 0

AUBURN, Ala. -- Brookwood moved to 6-0 on the year with a 7-0 win over Bob Jones on Saturday.

Jenny Allen had three goals, while Francesca Ellis, Kim Fincher and Julia Bassell each added a goal.

Kristen Rivers and Shelby Middleton combined for the shutout in goal.

GAC 4, Grissom (Ala.) 2

AUBURN, Ala. -- GAC moved to 6-0 on the year with a 4-2 win over Grissom (Ala.) on Saturday.

The Spartans got two goals from Hudson Knipers, while Davis Bryan and Connor Pendry had one goal apiece. Nash Wagnon also contributed three assists.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Mill Creek wins Peachfest Invitational

BUFORD -- Mill Creek won the Peachfest Invitational at Buford with a pair of wins on Saturday.

The Hawks (4-1) first beat J.L. Mann in the semifinals 14-12 before beating Peachtree Ridge 17-5 in the finals.

Maddie Peek and Tori Windom each had six goals, while Rachel Gann, Abigail Fitler and Maddie Beck each had four goals.

Jillian Wissel had 18 saves across both games.

Duluth ties two

NORCROSS -- Duluth tied both of its games on Saturday in the Spartan Shootout at GAC.

The first game was a 9-9 tie against Archer.

Ali Cole had six goals and two assists, while Noah Holt had one goal and one assist. Grace Carnazzo had six saves in goal.

In the second game, the Wildcats tied Lakeside-Evans, 9-9.

Cole had three goals and two assists, while Jessica Seoane had two goals. Carnazzo had eight saves in goal.

Grayson 8, Newnan 6

DECATUR -- Grayson beat Newnan 8-6 in the Inside the Perimeter Tournament at Decatur on Saturday.

Austyn Gorski had four goals and one assist, while the trio of Ashley Mistretta, Sammie Saunders and Charlotte Partrick had one goal and one assist. Brooke Eberhart also contributed a goal, while Taylor Denton had 14 saves in goal.

BOYS LACROSSE

Mill Creek finishes tourney undefeated

BUFORD -- Mill Creek was the only team to finish the Peachfest Invitational at Buford undefeated with a pair of wins on Saturday.

The Hawks first beat Baylor (Tenn.),10-4.

Nick Kozlowski had three goals and three assists, while Reed Stanton and Zach Roper each added two goals. Alex Schneider also had 12 saves in goal.

In the second game, Mill Creek (6-1) beat Webb (Tenn.) 13-3.

Andrew Eubanks, Will Bryan, Nick Eldridge and Roper had two goals apiece.

Grayson goes 1-1

BUFORD -- Grayson went 1-1 on Saturday in the Peachfest Invitational at Buford.

The Rams defeated Spain Park (Ala.) 13-10.

Garrett Gorski had four goals and one assist, while Sharp Reynierson had three goals and one assists. Zach Cernich and Hunter Dutton also added two goals apiece. Danny Tressler also had 15 saves.

Grayson then lost to Baylor (Tenn.) 7-5.

Gorski, Reynierson, Cernich, Dustin Hopkins and Christian Brooks had one goal apiece, while Josh Parris had 15 saves.
