SUWANEE -- Art teacher Karen Campbell said that the annual art exhibition known as Tapestry is a good chance for her students to show off what they've done during the school year.
The Collins Hill educator said it also gives them a chance to "see what the rest of the students in Gwinnett County Public Schools have created."
Throughout the month of March, thousands of pieces of student artwork will be exhibited as part of the 2013 Tapestry Display: an annual celebration during Youth Art Month at the school system's headquarters, located at 437 Old Peachtree Road, NW, Suwanee.
Among the art on display: paintings, drawings, mixed media, pottery, jewelry, two-dimensional art and three-dimensional art.
Collins Hill student Ashley White had an interesting three-dimensional piece of art, entitled "Never Broken."
White said she enjoys the yearly exhibition.
"I like to see all the different things that everybody's done," White said. "I like seeing what the elementary school age kids have done too. They've got so much talent."
Susan Schneider, an art teacher at Cedar Hill Elementary, might agree.
"At this age, they're really building on the skills they've only recently learned," Schneider said. "It's amazing watching them grow from kindergarten to fifth grade."
The Tapestry Display will be on display through the end of March.
The exhibit dates are March 2-7 for the Berkmar Cluster; the Central Gwinnett Cluster; the Collins Hill Cluster; the Dacula Cluster; the Duluth Cluster; the South Gwinnett Cluster; as well as artwork from Phoenix High.
An opening reception is scheduled for Monday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
