NORCROSS -- The Norcross Police Department is now on Facebook -- en Espanol.
Police Chief Warren Summers announced Friday that Spanish-speaking residents of the city can now find the department's Facebook page in their native tongue, meaning they'll be privy to the same online posts about upcoming events, street closings, crime alerts and other safety messages that English speakers have been. The 2010 census said just less than 40 percent of Norcross' population is Hispanic.
"The Norcross Police Department is committed to providing professional law enforcement services to all of its residents and visitors," Summers said in a news release. "It is very important to us that members of the Hispanic community have trust and confidence in the Norcross Police Department. For that reason, we are exploring new ways to reach out to them."
Department spokesman Capt. Brian Harr said a Spanish-speaking officer helps write the posts on the page, which can be found by searching "Norcross policia" on Facebook.
