PREP ROUNDUP: Ramsey RBI lifts Norcross over Kell in ninth

NORCROSS -- Norcross got an RBI single by Jess Ramsey to score Griffin Helms in the bottom of the ninth to pick up a 5-4 win over Kell on Thursday.

Helms singled to begin the inning and immediately stole second. After a walk to Zach Shirah, Ramsey roped an RBI single to give the Blue Devils the win.

Jackson Williams picked up the win after Joseph Wilber went 6 innings with seven strikeouts.

Ramsey finished the game by going 3-for-4 with three singles, two runs scored and an RBI, while Helms was 2-for-5 with two stolen bases. Shirah had one hit and two runs scored, while Wilber had a game-tying double in the bottom of the eighth.

BASEBALL

Mountain View 5, Walton 4

MARIETTA -- Mountain View got an RBI double from Garry Gwaltney in the top of the eight to score Beau Blair as the Bears (5-0) beat Walton 5-4 on Thursday.

Gwaltney picked up the win in relief, pitching three innings and striking out three, while A.J. Moore started the game, going five innings and striking out eight.

Blair finished the game by going for 3-for-4 with a double and RBI and a run scored, while Alex Dedels and Tayton Fore each had one hit and one run scored.

GAC 8, Hebron 6

NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian moved to 1-1 on the year with an 8-6 win at home over Hebron on Thursday.

Ross Wood went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored, while Jordan Dudek and Peyton McGuire each went 2-for-3.

Wes Bucher picked up the win in relief, while Carter Willyerd picked up the save.

Drew Coker pitched four innings for Hebron, giving up two runs.

Caleb Martin went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Brady Shop also had an RBI.

Killian Hill 9, Kings Way 3

DOUGLASVILLE -- Kyle Lewis pitched five innings and struck out eight as Killian Hill opened its season with a 9-3 win over Kings Way on Thursday.

Sam Mink and Sebastian Thomas each had two RBIs, while Justin Matthew was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Preston Atteberry was also 2-for-3.

South 10, Redan 0

SNELLVILLE -- South got a five-inning, six-strikeout performance from Chad Smith as it beat Redan 10-0 in five innings on Thursday.

At the plate, Morgan Miller went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Montrell Marshall had one hit and two RBIs. Mason Hart, Ryan Patterson and Drew McCarthy added a hit apiece.

Wesleyan 7, Riverwood 3

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan got a complete-game, four-hit performance from Johnny Richards as it beat Riverwood, 7-3, on Thursday.

Jahmai Jones went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Brandon Moss went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Pierce Ostwalt also had a three-run home run.

DACULA -- Hebron moved to 3-1 on the year with a 4-2 win at home against Archer on Thursday.

Bailey Pinto had two goals, while Andrew Hutto and Cole Redman each had a goal.

Meadowcreek 10, Dutchtown 1

NORCROSS Meadowcreek moved to 3-0 on the year with a 10-1 win over Dutchtown on Thursday.

Angel Vega, Valdemar Velasquez and Darrell Weller each had two goals in the win.

Berkmar 2, St. Pius X 2

LILBURN -- Berkmar moved its record to 0-2-1 with a 2-2 tie at home against St. Pius X on Thursday.

Scoring goals for the Patriots were Alex Ramos and Kofi Twamasi.

Hebron 3, Archer 1, OT

DACULA -- Hebron moved to 2-0-1 on the year with a 3-1 win in overtime against Archer on Thursday.

Bianca Clark scored two goals in overtime, while Jordan Lowery had a goal in regulation for Hebron.

Lexi Kent also had 13 saves.

Meadowcreek 7, Dutchtown 0

NORCROSS -- Meadowcreek moved to 3-1 on the year with a 7-0 win at home against Dutchtown on Thursday.

Rachel Hill had four goals, while Leslie Ceballos had three. Sandy Prado picked up the win in goal.

LILBURN -- Providence moved to 4-2 on the year with a 6-0 win over Our Lady of Mercy on Thursday.

Katherine Stayton and Jesse Manby had two goals apiece, while Brittany Tuttle and Ashlee Thompson each added a goal. Roby Lowndes also had two assists.

ATLANTA -- North picked up its first win of the year with a 6-3 win at St. Pius X on Thursday.

Nathan Howell and Joe Whitaker each had two goals, while Sam Gasta and Jack Ryan added one goal apiece.

Evan Richardson picked up the win in goal with eight saves.

GAC 15, Newnan 3

NEWNAN -- GAC moved to 4-0 on the year with a 15-3 at Newnan on Thursday.

Sam Harte led the way with five goals, while Whit Anderson had four goals and six assists. Peter Whiteneck also had two goals and 10 ground balls.

Duluth 18, Rockdale Co. 4

NORCROSS — Duluth moved to 2-1 on the year with an 18-4 drubbing of Rockdale Co. at GACs Spartan Shootout on Thursday.

Ali Cole scored five goals and had one assist, while Serena Sutton and Jessica Seoane each added three goals.

Grace Carnazzo had five saves in goal.

Lambert 8, North 5

SUWANEE -- North dropped to 2-2 on the year with an 8-5 loss at Lambert on Thursday.

Lauren Aycock had two goals and two ground balls, while Alexis Hedges had five ground balls and three forced turnovers.

Victoria Delnevo had 18 saves in goal.

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill moved to 6-1 on the year with a 5-0 win over Providence at Georgia Gwinnett College on Thursday.

Picking up wins for the Eagles were Ian Melnik, Evan Padvorac and Lorenzo Manacop in singles action. The doubles teams of Jake Inderrieden and Marcus Maloney, and Peyton Rushing and Khoi Truong also picked up wins.

Grayson 4, Central 1

LOGANVILLE -- Grayson moved to 3-1 on the year and 2-0 in the region with a 4-1 win over Central on Thursday.

Picking up wins for the Rams were Alex Quinn at No. 2 singles and Kevin Zamora at No. 3 singles. The doubles teams of Joelan Howes and Zach Cavaness, and Matthew Hollingsworth and Omar Abuaisheh also picked up wins.

Elijah Clark picked up Central's only win at No. 1 singles.

Buford 5, North Forsyth 0

BUFORD -- Buford moved to 8-0 on the year with a 5-0 win over North Forsyth on Thursday.

Picking up wins for the Wolves were Colby West, Nicholas Becker and Alex Turner in singles action. The doubles teams of Josh Thompson and Skyler Wilson, and David Petroni and Avery Turner also picked up wins.

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood moved to 7-0 on the year with a 4-1 win over North on Thursday. Picking up wins for the Broncos were Drew Wendell at No. 1 singles and David Brown at No. 3 singles. Also picking up wins were the doubles teams of Christian Gochanauer and Matt Jones, and Will McWhirt and Ryan Pridgeon.

R.J. Clement picked up North's only win at No. 2 singles.

DACULA -- Archer moved to 2-1 on the year with a 3-2 win at Dacula on Thursday.

Picking up wins for Tigers were Dan Kane at No. 2 singles, Michael Muller at No. 3 singles, and the No, 2 doubles team of Matt McNeeley and Joey Peterka.

For Dacula, Matt Nelson won at No. 1 singles, while Zak Germine and Louis Conde won at No. 1 doubles.

DACULA -- Hebron moved to 1-1 on the year with a 3-2 win over Athens Christian at Dacula.

SNELLVILLE -- South picked up a 4-1 win on the road against Shiloh on Thursday.

DULUTH — Norcross got a 35 from Zach Healy and a 37 from Clay Trocchio as it beat North 152-172 on Thursday at the Berkeley Hills Country Club.

Sam DiPaola shot the lowest for North with a 36.

GIRLS GOLF

North 134, Norcross 174

DULUTH -- North easily defeated Norcross 134-174 at Berkeley Hills Country Club on Thursday.

Christina Yang was the low medalist on the day with a 41, while Alex Hudson shot a 45.

Wesleyan 88, Mt. Pisgah 96

JOHNS CREEK -- Camille High shot a 43 as Wesleyan defeated Mt. Pisgah 88-96 at the St. Ives Country Club on Thursday.
