Cancer Study participants can help save lives
EDITOR'S NOTE: Paulette Zinkann is a cancer surivor and CPS-3 Champion.
If you could save a life from cancer, would you do it? Well, residents of Gwinnett County have an opportunity to save many lives by enrolling in the American Cancer Society's historic Cancer Prevention Study 3 (CPS-3). And it's so easy to do.
If you're between the ages of 30 and 65 and have never had cancer, you are eligible to enroll. There are two Gwinnett enrollment sites for you to choose from:
-- Lawrenceville Tull Gwinnett Family YMCA, Tuesday, March 5, 10 a.m. 2 p.m., and Thursday, March 7, 8 a.m. 12:00 noon
-- Norcross Robert D. Fowler Family YMCA, Tuesday, March 5, 8 a.m. 12:00 noon, and Wednesday, March 6, 3 p.m. 7 p.m.
In less time than it would take to eat dinner, you can take part in a study that will change the face of cancer for your children and grandchildren and generations beyond. You will have your waist measured and give a small blood sample. All your information will be kept strictly confidential and will not be shared.
ACS is seeking to enroll 5,000 people in metro Atlanta the American Cancer Society's CPS-3 -- 300,000 people nationwide -- to provide information on lifestyle and heredity that may cause or prevent cancer. The study will follow the participants for 20-30 years, but all that will be required of them after initial enrollment is filling out a survey in their homes every two or three years.
I urge you to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a profound difference in the fight against cancer. Visit www.cps3atlanta.org for more information.
