LAWRENCEVILLE -- This Fourth of July holiday, drivers will be free from construction-related lane closures in Georgia.
State Department of Transportation officials have suspended all work that would require lane closures for the upcoming holiday, beginning at noon Wednesday through 5 a.m. July 8."We anticipate heavy traffic over the Independence holiday week," said Bayne Smith, district engineer. "To lessen the impact on traffic, the Georgia Department of Transportation has restricted construction lane closures on interstates and major state routes."
Officials noted that crews may still be working in close proximity to traffic, and long-term lane closures may remain in place due to traffic concerns. Emergencies could also require lanes to be closed.
Due to the high volume of traffic expected for the summer holiday, officials urge drivers to continue to use caution.
