BUFORD -- This Independence Day the American Red Cross asks you to add an extra step in your celebration: give to a blood drive.
Tuesday through Thursday, there is a donation station at the Mall of Georgia, upstairs near Dick's Sporting Goods store.
The organization will be taking blood from noon to 5 p.m. all three days. Those interested in donating need to sign up in advance to schedule an appointment. They can select a time by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering code "tcac."
According to the Red Cross:
-- Someone needs blood every two seconds in the U.S.
-- One pint of blood can save up to three lives.
-- Type O is the most requested by hospitals.
-- More than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day.
-- Approximately 60 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate, but only 5 percent actually do.

The Mall of Georgia is located at 3333 Buford Drive in Buford.
