DISC SPOTLIGHT: 'Help!'

Help! Blu-ray (NR)

Movie: 3 out of 4 stars

Disc: 4 out of 4 stars

The second (and second best behind "A Hard Day's Night") of the five Beatles' films, "Help!" is less artsy (read: color, not black and white) than its forbearer and captures the band in a mostly unscripted light during their transition phase from teeny-bopper idols to serious, studio-only artistes. Like "Night," it is little more than a long-form series of videos connected with the most minimal of plots and it also marks the embryonic phase of the cinematic drug-influenced late '60s. The new features (well over an hour's worth) make it an absolute must-own for any serious or even casual Beatles fan.
