GAINESVILLE -- For the second straight year, the Northeast Georgia Medical Center was in exclusive company among hospitals in Georgia.
NGMC recently received the Women's Health Excellence Award for 2013 by Healthgrades, an independent healthcare ratings company. The hospital was among four hospitals in Georgia to receive the award, a year after it was one of two.Healthgrades measured mortality and complication rates for women treated at NGMC for 15 conditions and procedures. The hospital was ranked in the top 4 percent of more than 4,500 hospitals across the country for treatment of heart attacks, pneumonia, stroke and surgeries like heart valve replacement, hip replacement, knee replacement and spinal fusion.
NGMC President Brad Nurkin said the award recognizes the hospital's caregivers as among the best in the nation.
"When you think about the fact that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, and then you see NGMC being recognized for excellent treatment of women who suffer heart attacks, or other medical problems, it really hits home," he said.
