CUMMING -- Sheriff's deputies believe a medical ailment may have lead to a weekend drowning on Lake Lanier.
Authorities say Lindy James Murdock, 33, of Atlanta, died Sunday, after friends called 911 saying the man had slipped off a raft into the water.
Hall and Forsyth County dive teams found Murdock's body about an hour after the 3:32 p.m. distress call brought them to the Athens Park Road area in Forsyth County, said Forsyth County Deputy Doug Rainwater.
"There's no signs of any alcohol or foul play," Rainwater said, adding that family members indicated a medical condition, possibly a seizure, could have lead to the drowning. Rainwater said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation plans to perform an autopsy.
Reports Sunday indicated the man was from Lawrenceville, but Rainwater said Murdock had recently moved to a Bass Street address in Atlanta.
The death is the first on Lake Lanier during the summer season, the deputy said, although a fisherman died in the spring.
