LAWRENCEVILLE -- Athletes, Saturday is the day to put the "fun" in fundraiser.
Over at Coolray Field, there is the Tripp-a-Doodle's Trot and 5K benefitting Tripp Halstead, a 2-year-old critically injured Oct. 29 in Barrow County by a falling tree limb. The 5K will be at 8 a.m. with same day registration at $35. It is a chip-timed event and a Peachtree Road Race Qualifier.
The G-Braves will also have autographed items and a pre-game parade on the field for all race participants.
In the evening, the field is hosting Tripp Halstead Night when Gwinnett plays the Syracuse Chiefs. The game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Before the game, country singer/songwriter Jordan Covington will perform an acoustic set.
Fundraisers will continue before and during the game, and a donation of a portion of the funds raised from the Coolray Field Amusements, plus proceeds from a post-game tennis toss, will go to the Halstead family.
The first 2,000 fans in the gates will get a bobblehead doll of outfielder Jason Heyward.
