Falcons announce training camp schedule, events

After five successful years in Gwinnett County, the Atlanta Falcons' Friday Night Lights event is shifting outside of its borders for the first time later this summer.

Gainesville will host the Kia-sponsored event, which features a free scrimmage for fans, Aug. 2 at Bobby Gruhn Field at City Park Stadium. Friday Night Lights began in 2008 at Mill Creek, then traveled to Brookwood, North Gwinnett, Norcross and Peachtree Ridge the past four years.

That announcement was part of the Falcons' Thursday release of their 2013 Russell Atlanta Falcons Training Camp schedule at the team's Flowery Branch headquarters. Atlanta's 48th training camp will have select practices open to the public from July 25 Aug. 11.

The Falcons will conduct 33 sessions, including walkthroughs and practices, at their training facility. For the fourth time in as many years, the Falcons will conduct combined practices during training camp. Atlanta will practice with the Cincinnati Bengals in Flowery Branch, on Monday, Aug. 5 and Tuesday, Aug. 6. The Falcons hosted combined practices with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New England Patriots in Flowery Branch in 2010, traveled to Jacksonville in 2011 and held combined practice with the Tennessee Titans in Dalton in 2012.

Atlanta Falcons Youth Weekend will take place Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28, during which children ages 17 and under will have the opportunity meet Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders and enter several contests to win prizes.
