"Jazz in the Alley" event slated for Norcross

NORCROSS -- Calling all jazz cats: The city of Norcross is hosting "Jazz in the Alley" on June 29.

Eric Thomas, saxophonist and jazz musician, and his band Elevate the Quest is performing at the recently renovated Skin Alley. Local restaurants will offer dinners-to-go and coolers are welcome.

Known nationally for his music, Thomas mixes the art of jazz with other genres such as hip hop and soul. He recently played at the Columbus Jazz Society Concert and was asked by audience members to return next year.

"I'm just a cat trying to join this conversation of jazz," Thomas said. "I am developing my own voice and trying to create a sound that inspires people and change lives."

Nicole "The Voyce" Sweeney, the host of 91.9FM WCLK's Midday Jazz Swing show, will be on hand to emcee the concert. Seating for the concert will be at a first come, first served basis and audience members are encouraged to bring their own chairs to Skin Alley.

The concert is 7 to 9 p.m. June 29 at Skin Alley, which is between South Peachtree and College streets in Norcross. For more information, visit www.aplacetoimagine.com.

Not close to the jazz in Chicago and New Orleans.

Since Norcross isnt known for its jazz roots, I don't think they are trying to compete with Chicago or New Orleans as you imply. I do however think that venues like this are excellent for our community and applaud Norcross for planning them. I for one would much rather look at the positive aspect of things rather than doing just the opposite as you Kelvin.
