BUFORD — A boat that caught fire near Buford Dam Park at Lake Lanier is being examined by Gwinnett arson investigators after the fire sent three people to the hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The three people on the boat — two adults and one minor — were transported to a local hospital and were treated for non-life threatening injuries, Gwinnett fire Lt. Colin Rhoden said. According to Rhoden, the three were able to get off the boat after what a 911 caller deemed "an explosion" on an older wooden boat on the lake.
Crews arrived on the scene about 2 p.m. after receiving the 911 call. No other injuries were reported.
Though arson investigators are working the case, that doesn't necessarily mean any foul play is believed involved, Rhoden said.
"Any time there is a person burned as a result of a reported incident, Gwinnett County policy is to have an investigator do their due diligence," Rhoden said. "This is par for the course."
