Officer shot in firefighter hostage situation has more surgery

LAWRENCEVILLE -- One of Gwinnett's top cops could be back on the job in a matter of months.

Sgt. Jason Teague, the SWAT senior tactical team leader injured in the rescue of firefighters held captive in April, is recovering from a second surgery this week.

On Tuesday, doctors performed a bone graft to further repair damage to Teague's left forearm, taking bone from his hip to graft it onto the damaged area of the radius bone, which was shattered by a bullet when SWAT raided the Suwanee-area home of Lauren Brown.

According to a police press release, the surgery appears to be the last needed to help the decorated officer return to duty. Barring any issues, doctors estimate Teague has four to five months of recovery and rehabilitation before he is able to return to active duty, the release said.

Teague, a internationally acclaimed marksman and supervisor of the K-9 Unit, has returned to "light duty" with Gwinnett County Police, including sharing his experience with new recruits at the police academy, the release said. In the time since the April 10 hostage event, Teague has also been able to meet with fellow SWAT officers to review the incident in hopes of learning from it, the release added.

Already a highly regarded member of the police force, who placed the handcuffs on Fulton County courthouse shooter Brian Nichols when he was captured in Duluth in 2005, Teague emerged as a hero from this spring's hostage situation, where Lauren Holman Brown faked chest pains to lure firefighters to his home.

After negotiating for hours, the SWAT team raided the house, and in an exchange of gunfire, Brown was killed and Teague shot in the forearm. The firefighters were not injured.

A police spokesman said a county internal investation is still considered open, so Teague has been restricted from talking about the incident.

I never heard who shot Teague. Anyone know who did?

Were you hoping he was shot by one of his own buddies?

That's not an answer to my query, but a provocation. Do you have anything pertinent or mature to say in response to my question or do you have some other agenda in mind?
