LOGANVILLE -- For the second time in June, a Snellville nonprofit is hosting a free food giveaway for those in need of nourishment.

On Saturday, Overcomers House Inc. is setting up shop at 11 a.m. in the Healing Place Church parking lot to hand out enough food to feed 400 families. The group has partnered with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and U.S. Department of Agriculture to supply most of the fare.

"We'll have 400 turkey breasts with wings along with a lot of other foods and veggies," Executive Director Ann Mills said. "Isn't that wonderful?"

The first food giveaway was June 1 at the nonprofit's office in Snellville. There was such a tremendous demand for food that the next event has been relocated to a larger area to service more people.

"Over 400 people came out, but we had enough food to only feed 200," Mills said. "There were seniors using walkers and oxygen tanks in line. It sadden my heart to see them there, but it made me happy to see the looks on their faces (when they received food)."

The system is first come, first served and anyone with a need for food is allowed to come. According to Mills, the nonprofit is open to Gwinnett and DeKalb counties, but 75 percent of its clients live in Gwinnett.

"We know there is a need, people are struggling," she said. "We know people are working, but their income is not enough to pay the bills and buy groceries. We're happy to help as much as we can on putting meals on the table."
