Oz the Great and Powerful

Movie: 3 and 1/2 out of 4 stars

Disc: 4 out of 4 stars

Going in hamstrung by copyright laws held by Warner Bros., Disney and director Sam Raimi were faced with an unenviable and Herculean task. Unfairly maligned by those who stated it wasn't as good as the original (well, duh?), "OTGAP" is still a more than worthy origin story that -- and this is most important -- succeeds as a stand-alone effort. With the exception of the title character played a tad too smarmy by James Franco, the remainder of the cast is superb and the 3-D presentation is flawless.
