LILBURN -- Police in Lilburn released a sketch from a GBI artist, surveillance photos and a "be on the lookout" alert on Tuesday for a suspect in an attempted child abduction case.
The suspect is a light-skinned black male, medium build with freckles. His vehicle is a newer model black or gray Dodge Charge with very shiny rims. Police said the incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. on June 1 in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church at 285 Main St. in Lilburn.
The man attempted to coax a 10-year-old Snellville girl into his car while she roller bladed, but the incident was interrupted by the girl's mother. A Lilburn Police incident report said the man opened his car door and asked her to get in. The girl's mother, meanwhile, walked toward the man's car, and when he noticed her coming, he drove away.
The mother and daughter then saw the man at a nearby Shell gas station. Police released surveillance photos of the man at the counter inside the gas station, and of his car near gas pumps.
The daughter pointed out the man to her mother, and as the man saw the vehicle coming, he attempted to shield his face with his hand, then sped off toward Lilburn, the report said.
Earlier reports of the incident described the suspect as in his mid-30s, wearing a gold wedding band, black shirt, blue jeans and black, red and gray Jordan sneakers. A partial tag on the vehicle is PF6999.
