NORCROSS -- A Conyers woman was arrested on Saturday in connection with a homicide last week at a Norcross hotel. Yet Gwinnett County Police don't consider her the main suspect.
Brandy Leeanne Coker, 26, was booked into the Gwinnett jail on murder and aggravated assault charges that Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Jake Smith said are related to an incident at a Ramada Inn last week. Smith said Coker was allegedly involved in the case, which happened on June 6 at 5885 Oakbrook Parkway in unincorporated Norcross.
Coker remains in custody without bond.
The primary suspect police are looking for is Tony "Polo" Craig, 26, who is about 6 feet tall and 170 pounds. Smith said his hair may be in small braids or cornrows, or may have been cut short following the murder. Arrest warrants have been obtained against Craig for aggravated assault and felony murder.
Smith said Craig may be driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix and should be considered armed and dangerous. Police also have a surveillance photo believed to be Craig walking in a hallway at the hotel.
The body of Dewayne Jackson, 33, of Decatur, was found at 1:57 p.m. on the second floor of the hotel. Last week, Smith said detectives did not believe it was a random act, but did not release more details on Monday. Jackson apparently died from gunshot wounds, Smith said.
The homicide is believed to be the ninth this year in Gwinnett.
Jackson was arrested on a robbery charge in October at the Motel 6 located next to the Ramada Inn, police said. He was released on bond Jan. 22.
