Diverging Diamond opens earlier than expected at Pleasant Hill

The Gwinnett County Department of Transportation opened the new Diverging Diamond Interchange at the Pleasant Hill Road bridge over I-85 earlier than expected.

The bridge began to reopen to traffic at 11 a.m. today and was fully open to traffic around noon with the new DDI configuration.

Officials originally told motorists that the bridge would be open by 5 a.m. on Monday.

Crews closed the bridge to all traffic at 9 p.m. on Friday in order to shift traffic to the opposite side of the bridge, which will make left turns onto the interstate easier and improve the flow of traffic across the bridge.

Opening some 15 hours or so ahead of schedule, great job!

The entire CID area is looking nice with all the improvements but let's hope something can be done to preserve the Gwinnett Place Mall or shopping will become a memory.

Opening up earlier than expected does not surprise me. Them folks at E.R. Snell don't mess around. The DDI at this location will be an asset in relieving traffic congestion.
