Local business owner honored with top award
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Jeffery S. Wages of Wages and Sons-Gwinnett Chapel in Lawrenceville is this year's winner of The International Order of the Golden Rule's 2013 Golden Light Award.
OGR's mission is to make independent funeral homes exceptional. The Golden Light Award is the OGR's highest honor and it recognizes individuals in their field that have made contributions to society.
OGR announced Wages as the award winner on April 27 in Memphis, Tenn.
Grand opening and ribbon-cutting of local business
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Artzy Beads LLC is having its grand opening and ribbon-cutting in Honest Alley on the Square. Artzy Beads is a do-it-yourself jewelry store where customers can create bracelets, decorations and other jewelry.
The Grand Opening Celebration is at 4 p.m. and the ribbon-utting is at 5 p.m. on Friday at 178 E. Crogan St. in Lawrenceville.
Ultra Car Wash benefits Hi-Hope
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Ultra Car Wash is having a special promotion to benefit Hi-Hope. Hi-Hope Center is a nonprofit organization that helps adults with disabilities reach their goals.
The Ultra Car Wash special is going on through the end of June. The code "2013" is required for the $14.95 special, $5 of which will be given to Hi-Hope.

Genealogical Society holds presentation
WINDER -- The East Georgia Genealogical Society is inviting non-members to attend "DNA and How It Is Used in Genealogy" for their monthly meeting. Bill Hardin will give the presentation at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Piedmont Regional Library, 189 Bellview St. in Winder.
