Man found shot dead in area hotel

NORCROSS -- Police are investigating the murder of a man found outside a hotel room in unincorporated Norcross Thursday.

The body of Dewayne Jackson, 33, of Decatur, was found at 1:57 p.m. on the second floor of the Ramada Inn on Oakbrook Parkway, police said Friday.

The black man appeared to have died as a result of gunshot wounds, police said.

Last October, Jackson was arrested on a robbery charge at the Motel 6 located next to the Ramada Inn, police said. He was released on bond Jan. 22.

"Detectives do not believe this was a random act," Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith said. "We are not releasing information on suspects or motive at this time. The investigation is active and ongoing."
