Shelter offering discount on June cat adoptions

LAWRENCEVILLE -- June is National Adopt A Shelter Cat Month, and Gwinnett County animal control is hoping to make it twice as nice.

Designated as such by the American Humane Association, the annual push for feline adoptions is spurred by the typical spring surge in kittens that wind up at shelters across the country. To celebrate and do their part, the Gwinnett County animal shelter is offering an "adopt two" special this month.

That means that, due to an overflow of cats, the total charge for adopting one feline friend in June will be $30, including spay/neutering, the first round of vaccinations and a microchip. The total charge for adopting a pair of cats, though, will be a discounted rate of $40 -- including the aforementioned services for both adoptions.

The shelter currently has "many kittens available for adoption, in addition to all the mellow, older cats and everything in between," officials said.
