DULUTH — Police believe there may have been a second person responsible for the Saturday murder of a Duluth couple.
Ki Song Kim, an employee at the couple’s restaurant supply business, was arrested Tuesday and charged in the stabbing deaths of 63-year-old Young Chan Choi and wife Sun Hee Choi. On Wednesday, Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith confirmed that authorities had arrived at a possible motive for the homicides — and that Kim’s arrest didn’t mean they were done investigating.
“We’re pretty confident that the motive was robbery,” Smith said, “and are investigating the possibility of a second suspect.”
Few other details have been released.
The Chois were found stabbed to death inside their home on Worrall Hill Way just before 10 p.m. Saturday, witnesses reporting seeing a white passenger car and a man with a box of apples at the scene. Police are not saying for sure that Kim was the man with the apples, which are sometimes customary for guests to bring while visiting a Korean home.
Kim, 45, was an employee of Best Supply, the restaurant supply business the Chois operated out of Norcross. The specific nature of his relationship with the couple is unclear.
Tax records show the Chois had lived on Worrall Hill Way since 2008.
