Duluth hosts back to school charity event

DULUTH — The city of Duluth is hosting A Back 2 School charity event and Flicks on the Bricks on Friday at the Duluth Town Green. The charity event is for children in care and indigent families in conjunction with Gwinnett Division of Family and Child Service.

The city is collecting items from the standard school supply list, including: pencil pouches, pencil sharpeners with shaving catcher, pocket folders with brads, composition books, two- and three-ring binders, dry erase markers, tabbed dividers, USB flash drives, Scientific calculators, notebook paper (wide and college ruled), graph paper and rulers.

For each donated item a child will receive a coupon for a ticket to go on one of the large inflatables set up on the green, up to five coupons available per child. There will also be face painting for a small fee. Flicks on the Bricks will begin at dark and will feature “Despicable Me”.

Punt, Pass and Kick competition Saturday

LAWRENCEVILLE – The National Football League is hosting the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick football competition for boys and girls aged 6 -15 on Saturday at Rhodes Jordan Park in Lawrenceville. Participants are encouraged to register online at NFLPPK.com or on the day of the event before 9 a.m.

All participants are required to show age by providing a birth certificate. No football shoes or cleats allowed, only soft sole gym shoes.

The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick football competition allows youngsters to showcase their talents in punting, passing and kicking with scores based on distance and accuracy. For more information, visit www.NFLPPK.com.

New bowling center hosts charity night

NORCROSS – Brunswick’s, a new upscale bowling and entertainment center that opened on Tuesday, hosted an event benefiting Bert’s Big Adventure.

Bert’s Big Adventure is a “charity co-founded by radio personality Bert Weiss of Q100’s The Bert Show that sends Atlanta-area chronic and terminally ill children and their families to Walt Disney World.”

More than 260 guests, including Bert’s Big Adventure families, bowled, recording 312 strikes with Brunswick’s donationg $10 per strike for a total donation of $3,120.
