DULUTH — Supporters of a Duluth woman are asking the public for platelet donations so she can receive a blood stem cell transplant as she seeks a full match to save her life from a rare blood cancer.
Nekori Skinner, external donor recruiter for Atlanta Blood Services, said donors for Marina Peed can come to two locations to donate. The locations are the 10th floor of the Tower at Northside Hospital, 5670 Peachtree Dunwoody Road in Atlanta, and White Water Plaza, 220 Cobb Parkway North, Suite 100 in Marietta.
“Make sure donors let us know that they are from the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services, and that they are donating on Marina’s behalf,” Skinner said. “This will help to offset her daily parking expenses while she is receiving treatment, and most importantly there will be units of platelets available.”
Skinner said platelets are critical to Peed’s treatment and recovery, and people between the ages of 18 and 44 can visit the ABS center, and people between the ages of 45-60 can sign up at bethematch.org
To schedule a platelet donation, donors can call 404-459-8744, ext. 1160.
