WINDER — A gas leak shut down part of Ga. Highway 211 in Barrow County for more than nine hours Monday.
Barrow County fire department spokesman Lt. Scott Dakin said crews were called to the area of Ga. Highway 211 and Cedar Creek Road just before 10 a.m. Monday.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found members of the gas department on the scene attempting to stop (a gas leak),” Battlaion Chief Jonathon Franklin said. “Crews assisted Barrow County sheriff and Winder Police Department inshutting down roads in the area, including Highway 211.”
With fire crews alongside, gas company personnel worked to contain the leak for more than nine hours. Law enforcement kept roadways closed after firefighters left the scene, Dakin said.
