Movie: 4 stars out of 4

Disc: 3 and a half stars out of 4

Director Ang Lee’s 1997 period piece is widely regarded as one of the top films of the decade and is easily one of its most depressing. Kevin Kline, Joan Allen and Sigourney Weaver are the “mature” leads while younger versions of Elijah Wood, Katie Holmes, Christina Ricci and Tobey Maguire play the teen characters. Brittle as the title implies, “The Ice Storm” is the anti-holiday movie that fixes its jaundice eye on the decadence and tragic hedonism percolating in 1970s New England.
