In this week's 'Behind the Scenes' segment, we give you an inside look at the VCA Animal Emergency Center of Gwinnett. The animal hospital — located in Lawrenceville — provides emergency care at night, on holidays and weekends.

Although the center primarily focuses on seeing cats and dogs, the doctors have treated birds, ferrets, turtles, snakes, skunks, and birds of prey over the years.

"(If) someone presents me a situation and I got to try and figure it out and in all cases where the pet can't tell me what's wrong with them," said Medical Director Todd M. Nizialek, who enjoys putting all the pieces together to "solve the puzzle."
