YOUTH ROUNDUP: Peachtree Ridge wins state title

Peachtree Ridge Park won the Georgia Pee Wee coach pitch state championship in Fort Oglethorpe on July 6-10.

It was the fifth tournament victory for the team this season, which has a 29-0 record in the state of Georgia and will be headed to West Monroe, La., to play in the Pee Wee World Series on July 27-29.

Team members are Trey Majette, Troy Woods, Ashton Bridwell, Brandon Sunwoo, Carson Brewer, Tyler Bak, Dylan Sonnier, Korey Walton, Kerry Herndon-Brown, Caleb Downs, Jordan Ghant, and Jack Bedard. The team is coached by Jason Bak, Rogers Majette, Gary Downs and Les Bridwell.


Ashley selected

to prestigious

lacrosse academy

Zane Ashley, a rising ninth-grader at Peachtree Ridge, was named a Brine National All-Star. With the honor, Ashley represented Georgia in the Brine National All-Star Lacrosse Academy and National Lacrosse Classic in Boyds, Md., on June 30-July 3.

The Brince National All-Star Lacrosse Academy brings the top middle school lacrosse players in the country to one venue.

Ashley is the son of Ene and Casey Coffey and Curt Ashley. He is also a member of the Elite Lb3 lacrosse team, which is 17-0, and played on the Team Georgia Football University national championship team.


Georgia United

with national title

Georgia United won the 2013 AAU seventh-grade national championship in Memphis, Tenn. The two time defending Georgia state champions went 8-0 to win the week long competition, featuring 87 Division-I teams.

Team members are Travis Anderson II, Mandarius Dickerson, Chase Fiddler, Rodney Lewis Jr., Myles Beleyu, Kennedy Minx-Rogers, Malik McClain, Realus George Jr., Corderius Hastings, Eric Ross II, James Lewis, Daviyon Dennis, Rapheal Rogers and Gavin Lewis.

The team is coached by Tee Cofer, Rodney Lewis, Scott Beleyu and Eric Ross.


Buford players

shine on club teams

Several members of Buford’s volleyball program played for ProLink Atlanta this summer on the 14-and-under national team and finished third at AAU Nationals in Orlando. This players were Morgan Mitchell, Vivian Guy, Amanda Hopkins, Morgan Sutherland and Tatum Shipes. Maggie Roper and Kaitlin Tatum played on ProLink 18-and-under national and finished fifth at AAU Nationals and also qualified to go to the USA Junior Olympic Volleyball Nationals in Dallas, where they finished 24th. ProLink 18N finished the year ranked ninth nationally in the American Division of USA Volleyball rankings. Roper is a rising senior and Tatum will be a freshman at Columbus State this fall.


Coen wins first race

Dacula’s Jay Coen won his first career victory in the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series on July 17 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The win came in Round 7 of the Summer Shootout in the Legend Car Semi-Pro division.
