Sheriff's Office awarded recertification

LAWRENCEVILLE — The Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program this week awarded a re-certification for the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.

The program requires agencies to meet 129 standards for law enforcement policy and department operations, according to spokeswoman Deputy Shannon Volkodav. The voluntary certification process includes a comprehensive assessment conducted by trained assessors from outside agencies who verify compliance. The Sheriff''s Office's assessment was in May.

"I am extremely proud of our department for obtaining this certification, as it requires the efforts of every unit and division," Sheriff Butch Conway said in a statement. "It is important that agencies strive to meet established professional standards in an effort to provide the best service possible to the community."

The Sheriff's Office will undergo another assessment in three years, when the agency will be required to demonstrate compliance with the established standards.
