GGC to test outdoor siren system

LAWRENCEVILLE — Don’t be alarmed if you hear sirens going off at Georgia Gwinnett College Friday morning. The school is testing its newly installed outdoor warning siren located at the Varsity Athletics Complex at about 11:30 a.m.

The test consists of a series of “Westminster Chimes” tones from the siren. The outdoor sirens alert the campus community about situations presenting imminent, life-threatening danger, which includes tornadoes and severe weather, violent crime and hazardous material incidents on or near campus.

The public-address capability of the outdoor warning siren system also allows the college to make non-emergency announcements to the campus community. The emergency alert system also includes text, siren, email and web notifications.

The test will be postponed if there is a threat of severe weather on that day.
