Flash flood, severe thunderstorm warnings issued for Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE —The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Gwinnett until 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.

There were reports of hail along Interstate 85 after 6 p.m., and significant ponding on roadways as the alert said up to two more inches of rain could be expected over the next two hours. Parts of northwestern Dekalb County and central Fulton County were also in the warning.

Cities in the warned area are Norcross, Lilburn, Duluth, Berkeley Lake, Pine Lake, Avondale Estates, Decatur, Clarkston, Tucker, Druid Hills, Doraville, Chamblee, Dunwoody and Sandy Springs.

At just after 7 p.m., the NWS also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Gwinnett and Barrow counties until 7:30 p.m.

The area has received 4.84 inches of rain this month, according to www.lawrencevilleweather.com.
