Crews film the movie 'Blended' in Buford on Tuesday. The film which is scheduled to be released in May 2014 will feature Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.
BUFORD — On Tuesday, Billy Madison visited Buford. Or more accurately his portrayer did.
Movie star Adam Sandler, dressed in a blue collared shirt and gray athletic pants, drew a small crowd of locals who gathered to get a glimpse of scenes being shot for the movie “Blended.” Before the businesses on East Main Street in downtown Buford were open, there was plenty of action going on nearby. Just across the railroad tracks on West Shadburn Avenue, Sandler acted in scenes before waving to fans each time he came outside.
The movie, scheduled for release in May 2014, stars Sandler and Drew Barrymore, according to production spokesman Robb Frank. Sandler is known for comedies like “Happy Gilmore,” “The Wedding Singer,” “Big Daddy” and “The Waterboy.”
The excitement of having a movie filmed nearby excited workers at nearby businesses. Bailey Anderson and Kelly Gerber who work at the marketing communications group Legacy Worldwide, located across the street, devoted their entire lunch break to watching the movie set. Standing about 75 yards away, they had one goal in mind — spot movie star Adam Sandler.
Mission accomplished. They were able to see Sandler as he walked to a black Escalade during the crew’s lunch break.
“I am a little starstruck,” Gerber, a Snellville resident, said, laughing. “Because, I’ve never seen anyone famous in my entire life.”

Said Anthony Johnson, owner of Johnson Pharmacy: “They were looking for a small hometown traditional pharmacy and they thought that ours fit the bill.” Johnson said the movie crew plans to film a scene at his pharmacy, located on East Main, on July 23.
Onlookers said now that they’ve seen the filming from afar, they can’t wait to see how Buford and the set are portrayed in the movie.
“It will be really cool, to go and see the movie and think we were actually there and saw it firsthand,” said Anderson, who lives in Grayson.
