A designated staff surveils the 160 cameras making sure there is no unusual conditions, excessive backups, accidents or anything else that would interrupt traffic flow. If it is determined that the flow of traffic needs to be altered the staff can change the time and sequence of the signals (traffic lights). The county has about 700 traffic signals, two-thirds of which the staff can control.

"Our main goal is to benefit the traveling public, to make their commutes easier…" said Traffic Control Center Engineer V and Section Chief, Thomas Sever.
