LAWRENCEVILLE -- Stephen Anthony O'Reilly, the son of a Virgin Islands senator, was indicted on murder charges this week.

O'Reilly, 24, is accused of stabbing roommate Brent Francis multiple times inside their Snellville home on March 30 before fleeing in the victim's car. He later turned himself in at a police department in northwest Florida.

An alleged motive in the case has not been revealed.

O'Reilly is the son of three-term Virgin Islands Sen. Nereida Rivera-O'Reilly. A basketball standout in high school, he came to the United States to play at North Florida University before leaving the school and coming to Atlanta and Morehouse College.

He reportedly wound up in Snellville, alongside Francis and another Virgin Islands native, after hitting a rough patch.
