Cops seek witnesses in I-85 crash that killed mother

DULUTH — Police are asking witnesses of Monday’s fatal wreck on Interstate 85 to come forward.

At about 1:20 p.m. Monday, the Nissan Pathfinder being piloted by Rabia Adnan’s husband was forced to its right when a tractor-trailer on its left changed lanes. The Pathfinder then hit a box truck, careened off the interstate near Steve Reynolds Blvd. and rolled several times.

Adnan, 32, was thrown from the car and passed away. Her children — a 7-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl — were originally taken to the hospital but had been released by Wednesday, Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said. The driver of the tractor-trailer, whose name has not been released, is under investigation but has not been charged.

“Unless the particular circumstances of an accident require an immediate arrest, fatal accident investigations are completed before charges are filed,” Ritter said. “This can take weeks in some cases.”

Speed, alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the case.

Nevertheless, Gwinnett County police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call the accident investigation unit at 678-442-5626.
