The San Francisco Giants added Parkview grad Jeff Francoeur to their injury depleted outfield Tuesday, reaching a minor-league deal with the former Kansas City Royals outfielder, according to a FOXSports.com report.
Francoeur, 29, was designated for assignment June 30 and released Sunday. The Royals will pay most of Francoeur's $6.75 million salary.
San Francisco entered Friday having lost 17 of their previous 22 games, and sit in fourth place in the National League West. The team was looking to replace outfielder Angel Pagan, who could miss the rest of the season after having surgery on his left hamstring.
Francoeur could play with Triple-A Fresno. He could eventually platoon with switch-hitting Andres Torres in left field, and could also fill in for Hunter Pence in right or Gregor Blanco in center.
Francoeur came up with the Atlanta Braves and has also played for the New York Mets and Texas Rangers. He's batting .208 with three home runs this season.
