JONESBORO — Clayton County police said a pedestrian walking on I-75 caused a chain-reaction crash that landed him in the hospital and six drivers facing DUI charges.
Officer Danielle Rosa said the 3 a.m. crash Friday at I-75 and C.W. Grant Parkway started with a driver hitting a pedestrian. Six cars behind that driver also collided, she said. Six of those drivers were charged with driving under the influence.
The first driver and the pedestrian were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries, she said. Both are being investigated for possibly being under the influence, said Rosa.
The crash is being investigated by the Clayton County Police Department's STAR Team and the Georgia State Patrol. The pedestrian has been cited for being in the roadway, said Rosa.
Rosa said the incident is a prime example of what not to do during the holidays.
"The Clayton County Police Department would like to advise the public to be aware of drunk drivers during the holiday weekend and to report any reckless driving on the roadways," she said. "If you do plan to consume alcoholic beverages during the holiday weekend, do not drive but have a designated driver."
