One killed, one critical in motel shooting

NORCROSS -- At least two people were involved in a homicide on Thursday afternoon at a Norcross motel.

One person died as a result of a gunshot wound, and another is critically injured following an incident that involved vehicles in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn at 5171 Brook Hollow Parkway, GBI Special Agent in Charge Carter Brank said. An autopsy was performed on Friday, Brank said, but he did not release the identity of the person who died.

Norcross police referred questions about the incident to Brank.

Brank said Norcross Police Chief Warren Summers called him at about 6 p.m. on Thursday to assist in the investigation, which is normal for a major crime scene.

Brank said the vehicles were not crashed, but didn't identify the model of the vehicle or if they were damaged in any way. The vehicles were removed from the scene on Thursday night when the crime scene was processed, Brank said.

None of the rooms at the motel were affected by the incident, Brank said.

Brank said more people could be involved, but he couldn't release any more information because the investigation is ongoing.

The homicide is believed to be the ninth in Gwinnett County this year.
