DACULA -- City Council members voted Wednesday to approve a special-use permit and setback variance at the request of Pep Boys, an automotive/retail business. The 1.35 acre lot, located between Walgreens and Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell in the city's Town Green, is irregularly shaped. The two buildings planned for the site would not fit without a side setback variance, which was reduced from 10 feet to 5 feet.
The special-use permit was granted because one of the buildings, which is estimated to be about 4,500 square feet upon completion, will be used to perform light automotive repairs, such as tire installation. Twenty-two conditions attached to the permit ensure that no outside storage or work will be allowed on the premises.Volunteer recognized for serviceBilly Stone, a volunteer who has worked on the city's Memorial Day festival every year for 20 years, was recognized Wednesday for his dedication and commitment to honoring veterans. Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks presented Stone with a plaque and a thank you for his service to Dacula and to veterans.
