GCPS tech ed programs get certified

SUWANEE -- Gwinnett County Public Schools students will be able to enroll next school year in several technical education programs that are now industry certified.

The existing programs at four of the district's schools recently underwent rigorous reviews by business and industry leaders to be recognized for the distinction.

The industry-certified programs were at Duluth High School, engineering and technology education; Grayson High School, marketing education; Lanier High; marketing education; and North Gwinnett High, culinary arts.

According to a news release from GCPS, the certification process "strengthens all program components and benefits students in many ways. Students participating in industry-certified programs are ensured participation in programs that have been carefully interfaced with current industry standards, thus helping increase their qualifications toward successful employment."

Programs are taught by Tim Hemans at Duluth; Robert O'Keefe at Grayson; Dawn Wood at Lanier and Donna Kurdelmeier at North.
