Motorist hits Gwinnett fire truck, flees

NORCROSS — A motorist collided with a Gwinnett Fire SUV on Tuesday evening, and fled on foot, leaving two other passengers in the car.

The incident happened at Center Way and Oakbrook Parkway in Norcross. Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith said the passengers were treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Gwinnett Fire Lt. Colin Rhoden said a battalion chief in the SUV was returning from a fire and traveling alone without lights or siren activated when the incident happened. He was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Rhoden said.

Smith said police had identfied the suspect who fled, but didn’t immediately have the person in custody.
