NORCROSS -- A 4-year-old Norcross boy had to call for help himself after his parents allegedly left him alone in their apartment for more than 12 hours.

Curtis Lee Pickett, 28, and Nyota Mubiaya, 21, were arrested Jan. 25 and each charged with second-degree child cruelty and possession of marijuana. Jail records show they each posted $9,200 bond and were released the next day.

According to warrants for their arrest, the parents left their 4-year-old boy home alone in their Indian Trail Road apartment from 6 a.m. until just before 7 p.m. with "no guardian and sufficient food."

Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said that the child "called someone who notified police."

A small amount of marijuana was also found in the apartment, police said, and was accessible to the toddler.

No further details were available Tuesday. Jail records showed neither parent had prior arrests in Gwinnett County.

The question now is where is the child? The article did not mention what has happened to the child. Hopefully the child has been removed from the home and placed in a better facility than that the child was living in. The covered the 'alleged criminals' involved but no mention of the victim.

Whose really surprised, given how many people today have children who really shouldnt be allowed to. Because they are self absorbed and would rather smoke dope than attend to their child.
