JONESBORO — A man accused of assaulting his girlfriend's mother and stuffing her in a trunk in 2011 has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.
Authorities say Latoris Grovner beat 59-year-old Alena Marble with a vodka bottle and a sauce pot before putting her in the trunk of her car for more than a day in 90-degree heat.
A jury found Grovner not guilty of malice murder and Clayton County Superior Court Judge Matthew O. Simmons said the jury's decision limited the type of sentence he could impose on the man.
Authorities have said Grovner attacked Marble because she did not approve of his relationship with her daughter.
