MONTVERDE, Fla. -- Shiloh trailed by three points with one minute left to play on Friday night but couldn't get any closer as the Generals lost 61-53 to Montverde Academy, the top-ranked prep team in the country.
"They were able to hold on to beat us," Shiloh head coach Kim Rivers said. "I'm proud of how well we played tonight."
The game featured a battle of big men as Shiloh's 7-foot Trayvon Reed went up against Kentucky-bound center Dakari Johnson, with Reed finishing with 14 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.
Nate Mason also had a solid game for Shiloh (13-5, 9-2) with 21 points, while Evyn Smith added nine assists and eight points.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Norcross 71,Meadowcreek 59
NORCROSS -- Norcross improved to 14-6 overall and 10-2 in Region 7-AAAAAA on Friday night with a 71-59 win over Meadowcreek.
Three Blue Devils scored in double figures, led by 15 points from Lorenzo Carter. Ricky Madison followed with 12 points, while Jalen Davis finished with 10.
Meadowcreek (6-15, 4-9) was led by 15 points each from Austin Robinson and Terrance Snelling.
Archer 53, Berkmar 52
LILBURN -- Archer held off Berkmar 53-52 on Friday night to stay atop the Region 8-AAAAAA standings.
Three Tigers scored in double figures, led by 16 points from Bryan Hamlet. Archer (18-4, 11-2) also received 13 points from Kelvin Nwanze and 10 points from Randall Smith.
Berkmar (11-10, 7-6) was led by 17 points from Jonathan Sanks.
Dacula 72, Brookwood 62
SNELLVILLE -- Dacula received 19 points from Kevon Tucker on Friday night as the Falcons downed Brookwood 72-62 in Region 8-AAAAAA.
Brandon Goodson added 16 points and four assists for the Falcons (15-6, 8-5), while Jaylen Williams chipped in with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Zentavious Cobb also helped with 10 points and six boards.
Brookwood (16-6, 8-5) was led by 20 points from Khalil Abdullah and 15 points from Deion Dedeaux. Kendall Joseph also finished with 14 points.
Central 64, Parkview 37
LILBURN -- The Westmoreland brothers combined for 25 points on Friday night in helping Central Gwinnett to a 64-37 win over Parkview in Region 8-AAAAAA.
Eman Westmoreland led the charge with 14 points for Central (10-11, 4-9), while his brother, Sam, added 11 points. Brian Egejuru also helped in the win with 12 points.
Parkview (2-19, 0-12) was led by 12 points from T.J. Thomas.
Apalachee 80, Winder-Barrow 58
WINDER -- Apalachee had four players score in double figures Friday night, led by 16 points from Kamar Baldwin, as the Wildcats upended their crosstown rival Winder-Barrow 80-58 in Region 8-AAAAA play.
Cameron Blakley added 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocks for Apalachee (14-5, 8-5). Rakim Peters added 11 points, while Brandon Grullon finished with 10 points.
Winder-Barrow was led by 13 points from Travis Demeritte and 12 points from Chandon Sullivan.
Lovett 48, Wesleyan 38
ATLANTA -- Lovett topped Wesleyan 48-38 on Friday night in a Region 6-AA battle.
Will Clifton scored 14 to lead Wesleyan (9-11, 2-3), while Charles Mack finished with 10 points.
GAC 83, Hapeville Charter 43
NORCROSS -- Collin Swinton of Greater Atlanta Christian scored 20 points Friday night in leading the Spartans to an 83-43 romp over Hapeville Charter.
Andrew Lewis also helped with 18 points, while Isaiah Wilkins added 16 points. GAC improved to 18-3 overall and 5-0 in Region 6-AA.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Norcross 62,Meadowcreek 40
NORCROSS -- Shayla Cooper logged 23 points and seven rebounds Friday night in leading Norcross to a 62-40 win over Meadowcreek in Region 7-AAAAAA.
Allison Johnson added 15 rebounds and six points for Norcross (17-4, 11-1), while Bri Williams added eight points, seven assists, six steals and five rebounds.
The loss dropped Meadowcreek to 4-17 overall and 1-12 in the region.
Parkview 63, Central 26
LILBURN -- Parkview extended its unbeaten record to 21-0 overall and 12-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA with a 63-26 win over Parkview on Friday night.
Vickie Harris scored 21 points to lead the Panthers, while Genesis Perrymond added 18 points.
Central fell to 13-7 overall and 7-5 in the region.
Archer 58, Berkmar 47
LILBURN -- Berkmar received a 27-point night from Daijah Cooke, but the Patriots fell short, losing 58-47 to Archer on Friday night.
Archer (16-6, 10-3) was led by 21 points, four assists and three steals from Madison Newby. Morgan Jackson added 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Marissa Jordan finished with 11 rebounds and nine points.
Berkmar dropped to 10-11 overall and 6-7 in Region 8-AAAAAA.
Brookwood 39, Dacula 28
SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood's Courtney Gardner accounted for nearly half of her team's offense with 19 points on Friday night as the Broncos topped Dacula 39-28 in Region 8-AAAAAA.
Gardner also grabbed 11 rebounds, while Rebecca Walker added 10 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and three blocks. Brookwood improved to 13-9 overall and 7-6 in the region.
Dacula, who was led by 11 points from Jonnae Johnson, dropped to 6-15 overall and 4-9 in region play. The Falcons also received 10 rebounds and five points from Faustine Aifuwa and 10 rebounds and three points from Star Toomey.
Wesleyan 51, Lovett 31
ATLANTA -- Wesleyan knocked off defending Class AA state champs Lovett on Friday night 51-31.
Katie Frerking led the attack with 18 points and five rebounds. Keevana Edwards added nine points and seven rebounds, while Brittany Stevens chipped in with seven points, six rebounds five assists and four steals.
The win improved Wesleyan to 17-3 overall and 5-0 in Region 6-AA.
WRESTLING
Bears beat Lions 30-25
SUWANEE -- Mountain View improved its record to 29-5 on the season with a 30-25 victory over Region 7-AAAAAA opponent Peachtree Ridge
The Bears got wins from Adam Flatt (106 pounds), Kenny Cook (120), Kacey Gutierrez (138), Sterling Pyles (152), Jake Gandara (160), Austin Brown (170), Sean Dury (195) and Malik Washington (220).
