MONTVERDE Fla. -- Many players go their entire lives without hitting a buzzer beater. But to do it from half court and to beat a No. 1 ranked team is something that Nate Mason will probably remember for the rest of his life.
The Shiloh junior heaved in the game winner to beat St. Francis (Mary.) 65-64 Saturday in the third place game of the Monteverde Invitational. St. Francis is the top-ranked team in Maryland.
Mason finished with 23 points and five assists to lead the Generals (16-5). Trayvon Reed added 16 points to go with 10 rebounds, six blocks and four assists. Evyn Smith scored nine points and added four assists and three rebounds.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Dacula 63, Flowery Branch 55
DACULA -- Kevon Tucker scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds in Dacula's 63-55 win over Flowery Branch on Saturday. Brandon Goodson added 15 points and six rebounds for the Falcons (16-6). Jaylen Williams scored 13 points to go with four rebounds and four assists.
Salem 80, Meadowcreek 66
NORCROSS -- Meadowcreek dropped a non-region game to Salem 80-66 Saturday. Don Smith led the Mustangs (6-15) with 18 points. Adrian Smith added 11 points, six assists and five steals.
Providence 54, Prince Avenue 48
LILBURN -- Providence held off Prince Avenue Christian 54-48 in Region 8-A play on Saturday. Charlie Scott led the Stars (8-10, 6-2) with 13 points. Connor Jones added 12 points and Steven Kleinschmidt finished with 11 points.
George Walton 76, Hebron 53
MONROE -- Hebron fell to Georgia Walton 76-53 in a Region 8-A match-up Saturday. Tyler Skidgel and Ryan Thomas each scored 14 points for the Lions (6-13, 3-6).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Grayson 46, Collins Hill 43
LOGANVILLE -- Grayson rallied from a 13-point deficit in the second quarter to beat Collins Hill 46-43 Saturday. Courtney Deckard was the Rams' leading scorer with 12 points, all of which came in the third quarter. Lika Bah added nine points for Grayson (4-15).
Marissa Bayer, Sydney Brown and Emylee Whitten led the Eagles with nine points each.
Providence 39, Prince Avenue 28
LILBURN -- Providence remained one of the pace setters in Region 8-A with a 39-28 win over Prince Avenue Christian School on Saturday. Jessie Kowalewicz scored 16 to lead the Stars (12-6, 8-1). Megan Parker added 11 points, while Aubrey Gold scored 10 points.
WRESTLING
Three top podium for Meadowcreek at Jonesboro tourney
JONESBORO -- Meadowcreek had three of its seven wrestlers take first place on Saturday in the Tara Classic Invitational at Jonesboro High School. Rene Deluna won the 132-pound weight class, while Ade Harden took the title at 145 pounds. Ryan Moore was also the winner at 182 pounds.
Mountain View takes 2 of 3 in quad meet
NORCROSS -- Mountain View went 2-1 in Saturday's meet at Greater Atlanta Christian School. The Bears (31-6) beat Woodland 44-35 and Wheeler 39-30 but lost to the host Spartans 38-23. Adam Flatt (106 pounds) and Sterling Pyles (152) each went 3-0 for Mountain View.
